The weather did not cooperate with us on this particular party day but the vision of Iliana's My Little Pony Color Splash birthday party still came to light! Iliana requested My Little Pony for this year's theme so of course there were rainbows and unicorns galore! She also LOVES anything arts and crafts, so we had a couple different stations set up, the largest/main one for painting and snacks.
This was the first party thrown this year with her friends from school so I wanted it to be extra special! Not only were we meeting her friends in person for the first time, we were also meeting their parents! It's so crazy, this pandemic world we live in and it definitely makes you appreciate the smallest things, like connecting with other adults that in some way or another, have an impact on your child, even if just through their own children.
My Ili-girl is quite the MAGICAL one so I went with an additional "she is magic" sub-theme, you could say, and it felt it went cute with the ponies.
Decor

So many interesting details went into this, especially after realizing the rain was not going to stay away. To make the floor-level table we used:
- 4 wood pallets
- 1 8 ft. piece of plywood
- 12 - 24x24 pillows
- 2 plain pink tablecloths
- 1 long themed tablecloth on top
The colored balloons I got from Amazon here! The colors were just perfect and they had this circular picture on the photo that I used. We ran out of time to add the tiny ones all in between but still turned out super cute.
The "SHE IS MAGIC" letter balloons and the "6" balloon came from one of my favorite Etsy shops - Cheers Balloons . We have used them multiple times for multiple parties and the quality is amazing. 2 weeks later and they're still going strong up on the wall.

For the tablescape, I wanted to go with a mixture of "character" + "boho rainbow" and between Oriental Trading and Ellie & Piper it came together perfectly. The Magical Rainbow collection from Ellie & Piper had just the right amount of boho/60's flair that I though was so unique and different from the super bright or pastel pallet that normally goes with a rainbow theme.
From Ellie & Piper, I purchased:
- Magical Rainbow plates for snacks
- Magical Rainbow Reusable Straws, which we ended up with extra and I use them and wash in the dishwasher ALL the time.
- Magical Rainbow Fringe Napkins - has actual fringe around the outside - SO CUTE!
From Oriental Trading, I purchased:
- Cups
- Tablecloth
- HUGE Birthday banner (not shown)

Every single piece of art supplies, except paint came from Dollar Tree, including those cute flower-shaped paint holders! I scored a ton of wood activities for them to draw on.
I also snagged beads, string, felt and yarn for them to make necklaces, bracelets and wands with! For the girls at the party, there was also a My Little Pony necklace set they could make and take home from Target. The boys were pretty satisfied with their regular beads.
The paint I got from Walmart because the acrylic was only 0.50 per color!

It's always a good idea to have a photo backdrop where guests can snap pictures and these cute My Little Pony masks were from Oriental Trading too!
My best friend Nicki, from The Boho Diaries, created this absolutely perfect streamer backdrop from different colors I found at Walmart. They just laid over a string of jute rope and she added a little balloon garland to the top! The girls LOVED it!

Food
We kept it very simple with the food and a few things were individually-bagged thanks to my wonderful mother to keep it "Covid-friendly." Our menu consisted of:
- grapes and strawberries, bagged
- pretzels, bagged
- gogosqueeze applesauce packs
- chips / dip
- McDonald's nuggets (tried to get Chik-fil-a but you have to order at least a day in advance, FYI! at least for ours)
Desserts / Favors

This is probably one of my favorite cakes I've ever made - even if I need to work on my cascading icing look? Seriously though, I tried multiple times with this "drip" recipe I found and it just would NOT work! Anyway, it still turned out super cute and I topped with the Magical Rainbow cake topper from Ellie & Piper (matches the plates!) and a My Little Pony play set from Target.
The actual cake was just a funfetti box mix and the buttercream icing was my homemade recipe you can find here!

These cupcakes were also funfetti with my buttercream icing! I just used a Pinterest tutorial on how to make it ombre and had too much fun mixing the colors to find the perfect boho rainbow :)

For the favors, I got a TON of My Little Pony trinkets from Dollar Tree!
- My Little Pony magic towels
- My Little Pony figures
- My Little Pony stickers
- mini bath bombs
- Iliana's fave candies
Also, part of the favors were these amazing cookies from The Cookie Sheet NC ! They were so delicious and aren't the designs adorable! (oh, and she did them SUPER last minute because the birthday girl requested last minute so THANK YOU PAIGE!

You can't tell from the photos but the day was SUPER chaotic since everything got moved inside but it was still absolutely perfect and the most important part, Iliana felt very special. It was so fun to finally meet her friends (and their parents!) for the first time. This year has been crazy and different and with this party, for just a couple hours, it felt normal again :)

Now I can't wait for our next party, what do you think the theme will be?
